“But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law” (Galatians 4:4).

Jesus’ birth was providential. It was not a coincidence that He was born when He was. God’s timing is always perfect and when the fullness of the time was come – when the timing was exactly perfect – God sent forth His Son. Christ’s birth at Bethlehem was not an accident; it was an appointment: Jesus came in “the fullness of the time.”

And it’s no accident that you are alive today at this very point in history. Since God has a special purpose for your life, He has brought you into the world at just the right time in history to fulfill that purpose.

Donald Grey Barnhouse was speaking a series of meetings in a country church where the young pastor and his wife were expecting their first child. The pastor was absent during one of the meetings, but toward the close of the service he entered and sat at the back. Afterward Dr. Barnhouse went to his study and said, “Well, was it a boy or a girl?”

He replied, “Doctor, God has given me a son and I love that boy; but doctor, the baby has Down syndrome!”

Dr. Barnhouse took him to Exodus chapter 4 and read to him verse 11: “Who made man’s mouth? Or who maketh the dumb or deaf, or the seeing or the blind? Have not I the Lord?” He then went on to explain that God had a special purpose for blessing them with this child.

The young pastor returned to the hospital. He had not yet told his wife about the child’s condition. A nurse heard him tell the doctor he was going in to see his wife in her room, and she told another nurse; and thus word got to the switchboard operator.

The operator began to cry and slumped over the switchboard. The story went around the hospital. The following Sunday, about 50 nurses went to the minister’s church where he spoke on Exodus 4:11.

My friend, if God can use the birth of a little Down Syndrome child in such a significant way, just think of what He could do through your life were it to be totally surrendered to His will!

“But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law” (Galatians 4:4).

It was not a coincidence that Jesus was born when or where He was. God’s timing is always perfect!

One of the hardest lessons for us to learn in the Christian life is to learn to wait on God’s perfect timing. Whether it’s in the area of relationships, finances, or vocation, we need to be very careful not to run ahead of God. Because whenever we run ahead of God and try and take things into our own hands, we usually miss God’s direction and get ourselves into all kinds of trouble.

The whole Middle East conflict today is the result of one man who tried to take God’s timing into his own hands.

But God’s timing is always perfect. My father used to tell me, “God is seldom early, but He’s never late!” And “when the fullness of time was come” – when the timing was exactly right – “God sent forth His Son.”

Historians tell us that the time was ripe for the Savior to be born. The old religions were dying; the old philosophies were empty and powerless to change men’s lives. Religious bankruptcy and spiritual hunger were everywhere. God was preparing the world for the arrival of His Son.

Be assured that God is at work providentially in each one of our lives. Nothing ever happens by chance. There is no such thing as bad luck or good luck in the Christian life. But God is using the circumstances and people He allows into our lives to accomplish His purposes.

Whatever your circumstances, whatever you’re going through – God can be trusted because God is sovereign and He is in total control.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…temperance…” (Galatians 5:22-23).

God is more concerned about what we are than what we can do. He is actively at work in our lives and His purpose is to change us from the inside out. In Galatians chapter five He lists the fruit that He is working to produce in each one of our lives.

One of those important qualities on that list is temperance or self-control. Self-control is defined as our “Instant obedience to the initial promptings of God’s Spirit.”

Certainly we know that the enemy places thoughts in our mind. Every day he bombards us with his lies – many of which we accept and believe without even thinking. And when we believe and act upon Satan’s lies, he is then able to bring all kinds of destruction into our lives and relationships. That’s why Paul tells us to bring “…into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).

But the Holy Spirit also prompts us daily to do what is right using His Word. Our spiritual growth and success is dependent upon our sensitivity to His voice and our following through with His instructions.

Whose voice are you listening to? The more that we are in the Word of God – the more we saturate our mind with the Truth – the more alert we will be to the voice of the enemy and the more sensitivity we will have to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

It is right and proper for us to take responsibility for our sins and to ask forgiveness of those that we have wronged and offended. But the ideal is to be so full of God’s Truth and to be so sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit that we fail to offend others by our sinfulness in the first place.

Listen! The Holy Spirit’s promptings will always be consistent with the Truth of God’s Word.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…meekness…” (Galatians 5:22-23).

God is more concerned about what we are than what we can do. He is actively at work in our lives and His purpose is to change us from the inside out. In Galatians chapter five He lists the fruit that He is working to produce in each one of our lives.

One of those important qualities on that list is meekness. What an important quality meekness is. You can’t get along in a marriage, a family, or a church without it! It is an indispensable quality that provides for peace and stability in our relationships.

Meekness involves the yielding of our personal rights and expectations to the Lord. Again, this is not a natural quality. Our natural reaction is to fight for our rights – and we often do – producing destructive anger and a trail of broken relationships.

We wouldn’t get angry unless our own personal “rights” were being threatened. But “…the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God” (James 1:20). Our anger never accomplishes anything good. It is always carnal. It is always destructive.

The antidote to anger is meekness.

It begins with teaching your children how to share their toys or candy with their siblings. But it leads all the way up to the total dedication and yielding of every area of your life to God’s control.

Meekness is a manifestation of spiritual maturity.

An Indian once compared a Godly missionary to a mango tree. In order to get the fruit the Indians would throw stones and clubs at the tree. At the end of the season, the tree stood battered and scared, but the next season it would produce even more fruit.

That’s meekness: bearing fruit in a hostile world!

I expect that most of us today will have an opportunity to learn and demonstrate the quality of meekness. Don’t just focus on that present irritation or conflict. Understand the bigger picture of what God is doing by using those same conflicts to develop in you the meekness of Jesus Christ.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…faith…” (Galatians 5:22).

God is more concerned about what we are than what we can do. He is actively at work in our lives and His purpose is to change us from the inside out. In Galatians chapter five He lists the fruit that He is working to produce in each one of our lives.

One of those important qualities on that list is faith. It is better translated “faithfulness.” – “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2). In every area of our lives – especially those little areas that few people know about – faithfulness is required.

Jesus said, “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much” (Luke 16:10).

Pay attention to the little things – the insignificant things – because they are the doorway to greater things.

There are two dimensions to this. First there is an earthly dimension.

How faithful have you been in things like paying your bills on time, keeping promises you’ve made to your spouse and children and others? Our faithfulness in even the little things of this life can earn us the reputation of a “good name.” Proverbs 22:1 says, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”

But there is also a heavenly dimension. How we faithfully fulfill our responsibilities in this life will be echoed in eternity.

Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents to illustrate the significance of this truth. The master commends his servant – not for his abilities – but for his faithfulness. “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord” (Matthew 25:21).

Not every Christian will hear that “Well done…” from our Lord. It is conditional upon our faithfulness.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…goodness…” (Galatians 5:22).

God is more concerned about what we are than what we can do. He is actively at work in our lives and His purpose is to change us from the inside out. In Galatians chapter five He lists the fruit that He is working to produce in each one of our lives.

One of those important qualities on that list is goodness. The actual Greek word has a wide range of meaning, but F.F. Bruce suggests that in its context in Galatians, it most likely means “generosity.”

Generosity is “realizing that all I have belongs to God and using it for His purposes.”

We have a tendency to think that as long as we tithe, we can choose how to spend the remaining 90% however we please. But as stewards, we are responsible for all that God entrusts into our care.

Joseph was a steward in Potiphar’s house. He was in charge of everything but he owned nothing. God wants us to have that same attitude toward our finances.

Our generosity and willingness to give to meet the needs of other Christians is a reflection of our true spirituality.

For instance, excessive smoking free cialis sample and alcohol drinking is one hindrance for better ejaculation. Human bladder is a place where viagra online consultation http://www.donssite.com/cotinus/Smoketree-smoke-bush.htm urine is stored. Not long after my father accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, he became very interested in missionary work. He was informed of a specific need for £5.00. And although he couldn’t meet that need himself (for in those days after the war, £5.00 was more than a week’s wages), he prayed that the Lord would provide. After he prayed, he heard my grandmother — who wasn’t a Christian at that time — come up the stairs, past his door and into her room. A short time later, he heard her come out and stop at his door. Then she came in and said, “Here, I’m sure you can use that,” and put a large white £5.00 note into his hand.

God use the abundance of one Christian to meet the needs of another.

When was the last time that God prompted you to give to the needs of another Christian? Did you obey God’s prompting?

But generosity involves much more than just money. We are to be generous with our praise, our time, and our forgiveness. And God has promised, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38).

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…gentleness…” (Galatians 5:22).

God is more concerned about what we are than what we can do. He is actively at work in our lives and His purpose is to change us from the inside out. In Galatians chapter five He lists the fruit that He is working to produce in each one of our lives.

One of those important qualities on that list is gentleness. Gentleness is best defined as returning good for evil. It needs to be understood in the context of those who are mean-spirited or unkind toward us.

In a conflict, all it takes is one person deciding that they will not react as the other person reacted. If someone has hurt you, you do not need to hurt them. Whatever may have been done to you, you do not need to respond in kind.

The apostle Paul stated it this way: “See that none render evil for evil unto any man…” (1 Thessalonians 5:15). That includes your spouse and those in your own family – who are the frequent targets of our lower nature.

Peter takes it a step further saying, “Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing” (1 Peter 3:9). It’s not enough to simply be passive. We need to actively pursue that which is right.

The most common culprit is phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) enzymes viagra 20mg that decrease cGMP levels in the body. Quite often you will on line viagra djpaulkom.tv find the person affected by low self worth and problems dealing with school and other environments. Even a slight change viagra side online in the lifestyle can also help an individual staying away from a sloppy business owner. It assists in mastercard tadalafil lowering the blood pressure and combating free radical cells. Peter also uses Christ as an example “…that ye should follow His steps…Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again” (1 Peter 1:21-23). Jesus willfully and deliberately gave up His life for the very people who mistreated Him.

You do not have to reciprocate what others do to you or say about you. Your response is subject to your own will. You have a choice. You do not need to be hateful, angry, or mean to a person who has hurt you. You can respond with the gentleness and kindness of Christ.

Refuse to be drawn in to the petty squabbling that characterizes so many relationships. Take the higher ground and do what is right. Do not respond with your emotions, but with your will choose to respond Biblically and graciously. “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21).

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…longsuffering…” (Galatians 5:22).

God is more concerned about what we are than what we can do. He is actively at work in our lives and His purpose is to change us from the inside out. In Galatians chapter five He lists the fruit that He is working to produce in each one of our lives.

One of those important qualities on that list is patience. Patience can be defined as – “Accepting a difficult situation from the Lord without giving Him a deadline to remove it.”

Patience can only really be understood in the context of suffering. That’s why so few of us ever learn it. Often when we begin to experience pressure or problems – especially in our marriage – our natural reaction is “How can I get out of this?”

The New Testament church had a different understanding of suffering. They embraced it – not because they had a martyr’s complex but because they understood the spiritual benefits that trials produced when responded to with the right attitude. Consider the following verses.

• “And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name” (Acts 5:41).
• “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience” (Romans 5:3).
• “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).
• “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17).
• “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations” (James 1:2).

There are two truths you need to keep in perspective when going through a trial that can help us have the right attitude and response to trials.

First, God is good. We often say that don’t we? When things are going well and according to our plans, we can often be heard to say, “God is good.” Now that’s easy to say when everything is going our way, but what about when things don’t go quite the way we’d planned? What about when a loved one dies or we’re involved in an accident or lose our job? The truth is, God is still good. Our circumstance may change but God doesn’t change. God is always good!

Secondly, God is sovereign (Romans 8:28). There’s not one thing that happens in your life without the knowledge and permission of a Sovereign God Who has everything under control. Every situation and circumstance has been allowed by Him and is being used to build and shape the character of Jesus Christ into each one of our lives.

Rather than complaining and fighting against your circumstances – acknowledge God’s goodness and His sovereignty and submit yourself to His perfect will.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…peace…” (Galatians 5:22).

Peace is the birthright of every child of God. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

However, that experiential peace is not automatic. It’s not ours to enjoy regardless of how we live the Christian life. It’s conditional. Peace is the result of structuring our lives around that which is eternal and cannot be destroyed or taken away.

We lose our peace whenever we build our lives around those things which can easily be taken away from us. We can lose every person, every position, and every possession.

And if you are building your life around some person — some family member — and you lose them, then you’ll be devastated.

If you are building your life around some position — a job or an office that you hold — and you lose it, it can throw you into the pit of discouragement.

If you are building your life around some possession and it’s stolen or destroyed, then you’ll be overwhelmed.

That’s why God wants us to build our lives around the person of the Lord Jesus Christ and around the eternal principles of His Word — “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3).

Our circumstances are continually changing but God’s Word never changes. Satan seeks to rob us of our peace (John 10:10); but as long as our focus is upon the never-changing truths of the Bible, we have an anchor that can keep us peaceful and secure during even the fiercest storm.

Make sure your hold is light upon the temporal things of this world that will pass away with time; but have a firm grip upon your relationship with the Lord and upon the eternal truths of His Word.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…joy…” (Galatians 5:22).

Joy is “the spontaneous enthusiasm of my spirit when my soul is in fellowship with the Lord.”

Intimate fellowship with the Lord is a producer of joy – regardless of our circumstances. But if our fellowship with the Lord is broken because of sin, one of the first things to go is our joy.

When I was at college, one of the highlights of the school year was the annual missions conference – but I was miserable because I was refusing to surrender to God!

As the conference drew to a close, God’s Spirit was at work in my life. I remember wrestling with God until He broke my stubborn heart and I said, “Lord, anywhere, anytime, at any cost.” Only after I had surrendered to the Lord was He able to fill my life with true joy.

Before you can know God’s will and direction for your life, you must come to that point where your will is no longer your own. George Muller said that in order to receive counsel “…the first step is to get the heart into such a state that it has no will of its own in a given matter.”

Do you have joy in your Christian life? If not, why not? Could it be that there is some sin that needs to be confessed and made right, or some area of your life that needs to be surrendered to the Lord?

Have you ever told the Lord, “Anywhere, anytime, at any cost”?

Joy in life is not a matter of chance or circumstance. It’s the result of complete and total surrender to the perfect will of God.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love…” (Galatians 5:22).

As I read through the Bible, I’ve come to the conclusion that God is more concerned about what we are than what we can do. He is actively at work in our lives and His great desire and purpose is to change us from the inside out.

In Galatians chapter five He lists the fruit that He is working to produce in each one of our lives. The first quality on that list is “love.” This is so basic to our identity as Christians. Jesus said, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). Without a practical demonstration of Christian love our Christianity is useless and meaningless to the rest of the world.

A popular song begins with the words, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love… It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of.” Do you believe that? You probably do. But what the world doesn’t need is the phony, conditional love presented to us by Hollywood. What the world, the church, and every marriage needs is Biblical love which is the fruit of the Spirit.

Two words go together in Scripture to demonstrate the love of Christ: the words “loved” and “gave.” Paul talks in Galatians 2:20 about “the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Ephesians 5:2 exhorts us to “walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us…” That is the love which we are to have for one another.

Paul uses the Greek word agape. It’s the highest form of love. The world’s love is always object oriented. The person is loved because she’s pretty or because he’s got lots of money; but the moment a person loses that quality, the love based on that quality disappears. But agape love isn’t like that. It gives and it gives sacrificially.

Husbands especially are commanded to love their wives. Ask the Lord to show you how you can demonstrate love to your spouse and family today by serving them and meeting their needs, at the expense of your own time and effort.

Of a particular Christian it was said, “He gave away his life in handfuls.” That’s Biblical love!

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9).

According to a seventy-year study, divorce is comparable to two packs of cigarettes a day. The study found that those divorced had a 40% greater risk of “premature death” than those who were steadily married. Another recent study claims that divorce can actually increase your chances of terminal cancer! And divorced men were also found to be twice as likely to die of cardiovascular disease than their married counter-parts.

An interesting survey was taken of 3,500 couples whose marriages were in trouble: of those who chose to stay together despite the fact that they had rated their marriages as “very unhappy,” 86% rated those same marriages as “very happy” or “quite happy” five years later. Yet so many people today are willing to give up on their marriages without any effort to try and communicate and resolve their problems.

Communication is the only means for resolving conflicts in a marriage. Refusing to deal with the problems in your marriage or walking away from them will not make you happy. It only presents you with a new set of problems that are very much worse.

Don’t give up on that relationship. Be prepared to talk and communicate with your spouse. Be prepared to back down and humble yourself. Be prepared to forgive and to ask forgiveness when you are wrong.

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted” (Galatians 6:1).

Evangelism is sharing the Good News of the Gospel and leading someone to know and accept Christ as their Savior. It represents part of the fulfilling of the Great Commission that Jesus charged us with at the end of the Gospels (Mark 16:15).

We may not have the specific gift of evangelism but we must all share the responsibility to “…do the work of an evangelist” (2 Timothy 4:5).

The Lord may burden us to pray for the salvation of specific people groups or individuals. He will providentially bring people across our path that He expects us to share the Gospel with. As difficult as it may seem, it’s what we must do.

But there is something even more difficult for which we each have a shared responsibility – it’s trying to restore an erring Christian. That’s what many of the New Testament epistles are all about – rebuking, exhorting, encouraging Christians to believe the Truth and to walk in the Truth.

We need to do more of that. We need to be involved in each other’s lives exhorting one another to do what is right. There are some who are quick to condemn and confront but their motive and their attitude are wrong. It must be done “in the spirit of meekness.” We are to speak “the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15).

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9).

Behind every discouragement is a lie from Satan. In Ephesians 6:16, where Paul is dealing with the subject of Spiritual Warfare, he exhorts his readers to take up the shield of faith “wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked [one].”

If we are going to gain victory over discouragement, then we must first remove any guilt. Satan will often try to use past mistakes or failures to keep us from dealing with discouragement. He will convince us that our lives are of little value or worth because of failures in our past. And so we carry around heavy burdens of guilt that God never intended us to carry.

Guilt is not something to ponder and review. It should drive us to action!

If there is guilt in your life over some sin that has never been confessed and put right, then acknowledge it, confess it to God, make restitution if necessary, and do not give Satan an opportunity in your life to make a stronghold by which he can throw you into discouragement.

But beware of false guilt. This is where Satan reminds us of sin and failures from the past in an effort to convince us that we are not worthy of God’s love. If that sin has already been confessed then it is covered by the blood of Jesus Christ (1 John 1:7). We are told that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Obviously God does not forget. When He says, “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins” (Isaiah 43:25) – He is stating that He will never bring up against us past offenses that have been confessed and repented of. In fact we are told that “as far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12).

As believers, those sins that we fail or refuse to deal with now and take with us to the grave, we will be confronted with at the Judgement Seat of Christ. While our eternal destiny is never in question, our present fellowship with the Lord and our future rewards and position in the Kingdom of Heaven will be greatly affected.

So take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

If the guilt you are experiencing is legitimate – then deal with it. Take ownership and responsibility of the sin and renew your fellowship with the Lord.

If it’s “false” guilt you are struggling with – then reject this lie from the enemy reminding him that “…the blood of Jesus Christ…cleanseth us from all sin (1 John 1:7).

On a side note – as God forgives us, that’s exactly how we are to forgive each other: “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32).

“But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Galatians 4:4-5).

Genesis 2:24 tells us that as a man enters the marriage relationship, he is to “…leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” This is a beautiful representation of how Christ left His Father to redeem for Himself a bride.

The word “leave” involves direction, not rejection. That is not what is happening in our society today where young people are getting married just to get away from home. It’s almost inevitable, if a young person marries just to get away from a bad situation at home, he is likely to repeat the mistakes of his parents.

What God is saying is that before marriage, the most wonderful relationship a child should have is the relationship he has with his parents. So much so that he doesn’t want to leave – not because he’s over dependent – but because of the quality of the relationship he has with his mother and father. We were in a home and the young teenage girl said, “I don’t want to get married. I want to stay with my Mom and Dad.” You say, “That’s abnormal!” That’s not abnormal, that is the way God intended it to be. I guarantee you that when the time is right and the Lord has brought a certain young man into her life, she will have no problem leaving her parent’s home.

In Old Testament culture, a very high priority was placed upon a child’s relationship with his parents; but God is saying that even that relationship is to be subordinate to marriage.

God established leaving for the purpose of marriage because marriage is the most important of all human relationships – more important than your relationship with your parents, friends, colleagues, pastor, or even your children. There is only one other relationship that should be before it, and that is your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Are there other relationships or activities that have taken priority over your marriage? Would your spouse say that your marriage takes precedence over every other relationship? God says that marriage is to be number one, top priority!

“Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” (Galatians 3:3).

The book of Galatians is a written defense of the Gospel of the grace of God. The Gospel had come under attack by a number of false teachers who had invaded the Galatian church. They emphasized the necessity of works for salvation and were trying to bring the Galatian believers back into the bondage of legalistic religion from which they had been freed by the Gospel.

The Galatians believers began their Christian walk by faith and in chapter three, Paul asks if they were so foolish as to think that they could go on to spiritual maturity in any other way?

The false teachers taught that it was only possible to attain spiritual maturity by means of the law. Paul implied that since they began the Christian life by faith they should continue toward maturity in the same way.

Whenever a child is born he has all that he needs for life; nothing needs to be added. All that is necessary for that child to grow to maturity is food, exercise, and cleansing.

Whenever a child of God is born into God’s family, he has all that he needs spiritually and there is nothing that needs to be added. All that is necessary for that child of God to grow to spiritual maturity is for spiritual food, exercise, and cleansing.

He is fed spiritually through reading, studying, memorizing and meditating upon the Word of God. 1 Peter 2:2 states: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” A lack of spiritual appetite for the Word may be an indication of spiritual sickness (unconfessed sin) or it may be because we have replaced the Word with the “junk food” of life which ruins our spiritual appetite.

He obtains his spiritual exercise by using his spiritual gifts, by sharing his faith, and by purposely developing the character of Christ.

He is cleansed spiritually by allowing the Word of God to expose sin in his life, by keeping short accounts with God, and by asking forgiveness of those that he has wronged and offended.

There is nothing that we need in addition to faith in Christ for salvation. We are saved by grace through faith. It is in exactly the same manner that we grow to spiritual maturity. Don’t be content with where you are in your walk with the Lord. Press on towards spiritual maturity.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

When the Apollo project was beginning, there arose an argument between the engineers and scientist over how to make the best use of the space on board the rocket. The scientists wanted as much space as possible for lab work. The engineers wanted it for back up systems in case something failed. They were at a stalemate until they asked the astronauts. Given the choice of lab space or back up units – they chose survival.

As much as our hymns may talk about our home in heaven; most of us are not in too big a hurry to get there. We’ve grown comfortable with this world. We’ve taught ourselves to defend our lives, our loved ones, our possessions. We fight for our rights. We’ve trained ourselves to survive. We are reluctant to die.

Yet Paul’s talk about the crucified life inevitably involves death – death to self. That concept makes us somewhat uncomfortable. Yet it is in dying to self that we begin to truly live. As we die to our own rights and feelings and ambitions and allow Christ to reign as Sovereign, we experience the blessedness of the crucified life,

Dead people are no longer in control. They do not get their feelings hurt. They have no opinion of their own. They do not get offended.
