For many Christians, purpose in life involves finding a well-paying job and being successful at it. As a result, many children grow up in Christian homes believing that once they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior they have obtained God’s highest goal and that they can continue living their lives as they please.
God has brought us into the world at this precise time in history to fulfill His purpose. The words of Mordecai to Esther are just as appropriate for us today – “…and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).
What are you doing with your life that is going to make a difference in eternity? When you stand before the Judgement Seat of Christ, what will you be able to look back on and say, “This is what – by God’s grace – I have accomplished for the Kingdom of God”? Does your life have a spiritual purpose for living?
Some time ago I spoke to a young man who was on his way to the mission field, and I asked, “Why missions?” He replied that he had been involved in construction work and he realized that the buildings he was putting up might last 60, 80, or 100 years; but he was doing nothing with his life that would last for eternity. So he dedicated himself to the Lord and made himself available to go anywhere the Lord would want him to go and to do anything the Lord would want him to do, and the Lord then directed him to invest his life on the mission field.
