Bitterness or unforgiveness is the easiest inroad that Satan has to a Christian’s life. A quick perusal through the Scriptures shows a clear demonic link with the sin of unforgiveness.

In 1 Corinthians Paul wrote about a young man who was involved in immorality. Church discipline was exercised and he was literally delivered over to Satan (1 Corinthians 5:5). The goal of church discipline is not revenge or punishment but repentance; and in Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians the desired effect was produced and the young man returned to the church fellowship. There were, however, some in the church body who refused to forgive this young man and Paul writes, “…ye ought rather to forgive him…Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11).
In the immediate context of anger and bitterness, Paul says to the believers in the church at Ephesus, “Neither give place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27). The word “place” is a translation of the Greek word TOPOS – it’s where we get our English word “topography” from. It literally means “ground.” Bitterness or anger gives Satan ground to operate in a believer’s life.
Most Christians would never think of becoming involved in the occult and giving opportunity for the enemy to operate; but bitterness is one of the easiest inroads which Satan has to a Christian’s life.
