Jesus said, “… my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).
In the next chapter Jesus confirms, “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11).
Joy and peace are the birthright of every child of God, yet so many Christians today are being robed of what is rightfully theirs. Satan is the thief who wants to rob us of our joy and peace.
We lose our peace because our focus is on our circumstances and we believe Satan’s lies that our situation is hopeless. We have taken our eyes off of Jesus and the result is fear and panic. We need to understand that although our circumstances may change – Jesus doesn’t. The Truth is that He is Sovereign and He is in control. His promises are true and He will see us through the fiercest storms of life. The prophet reminds us of the promise and our responsibility – “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3).

We lose our joy because we view our circumstances from a temporal rather than an eternal perspective; and we fail to see that God is even using our trials and difficulties to accomplish His eternal plans and purposes (Romans 8:28). Nothing happens to us by chance. There is no such thing as bad luck. There is truly joy in serving Jesus when we refuse to complain about our circumstances and recognize that He is using them to build in us the character of Jesus Christ.
Don’t allow the enemy to rob you of your birthright. Paul says, “Rejoice in the Lord alway… Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:4-7).
